History of CGHCNAAI

Beginning a search for the history of our alumni association is also a review of the foundation and start of the nursing school where the alumni graduates got their knowledge to be competitive nurses globally.

Dr. Jose Teehankee, as the medical director of the Chinese General Hospital had a vision of a training school for nurses to provide better medical and nursing services to the sick and to enhance the prestige of the hospital. Having observed, the sisters of the Immaculate Conception working in Hong Kong and Canton, Dr. Teehankee decided to request for their services through the Archbishop of Manila Mons. Michael O’ Doherty who gave consent.

Missionary Sister of Immaculate Conception arrived in August, 1921 and the first group of graduate nurses was inaugurated the same year. For additional information, the Missionary of Immaculate Conception had an infirmary inside the Immaculate Conception Academy where retired and old nuns are taken care of. They will also celebrate the centennial in their own congregation.
